Sometimes I feel naked
Like my heart just shines on through
But it’s when I let my guard down
That I finally met you.
I used to think
All the photos
In my home
Had fairies dancing
and twinkling
At the edges of the frames.
I would stand in the hallway
Looking from frame to frame
Face to face.
Watching the fairies make their way
From shoulder to shoulder.
I used to see
The good in
all evil.
I could tell that
The bullies had hearts of gold.
I used to smile
Because I knew
I could fool the
people looking in on me
And pretend it was okay.
I had stopped
Seeing the fairies
Looking for good
And smiling at the world
Until I met you.
I let my guard down
Just this once
Held my heart in one hand
And grasped your hand firmly in the other.
Now again
As I walk the halls of my home
I see the fairies
Flit from frame to frame
They are all good.
I smile and watch them dance.
