"Like lights in the Dark,..."

Like lights in the Dark,
we are small and flickering
( some shining very brightly through ) the pathways
and like fireflies

we can pass each other briefly
and be fully able to detect each other
not just another ( part of the dark )
this is fleeting human contact.

( and like fireflies )

we are everywhere; you just have to look
( for contact )
we are family in a way despite the distance
just a family of strangers --- maybe we were born together once,
now sparse illuminated faces in the storm.
( twisting our umbrellas )

We illuminate the storm.
It is days when we
are so consumed by rain, our light is all we have
we feel replenished to find comfort in each other
spilling chains of hearts out of takeaway paper cups and
onto each other's laps ( , we may wonder
if we are still like strangers --- ) maybe we
are more like friends; maybe we
are like fireflies
