You're Not Alone

I'm out there, closer than you think.
You pass me everyday,
But have trouble seeing me.

When you look with your eyes,
I all but disappear. . .
Fade into darkness.

It's your heart that knows me best.
And I don't mean that granite lump,
Ossified by dissapointment.
I mean the 2 year old heart,
Still beating true behind those walls.

Peel the layers, the hate, the distrust,
The jaden tubercles disguised as strength.
Pierce that indiscriminatory shield that
Repels the sour AND the sweet.

It's only when your heart lies exposed,
Vulnerable, poised squishable beneath
A pointy heel. . .

That's when you'll find me,
Standing before you,
Arms open wide.

I may not be what you expected.
You're eyes may be uncertain.
But you're heart won't be fooled.

I'll take your hand and lead you through the storm.
I'll take that heavy bag you carry,
Full of things you thought you needed,
And toss it in the fire.

As you watch those memories,
That guilt,
Those useless beliefs,
Things bought late at night from a smiling face,
Drift away in a smoky cloud,
You'll know what it means to be free.

You're not alone.
I'm out here.
Waiting for you to find me. . .
